The Brampton East Thunder Under-15 Elite soccer team has taken on the initiative of a project to gather decently used footwear for the youths of Haiti.
The name of the project is ‘Thunder at their feet’ and it started back in mid-January.
Presently the team has collected approximately 40 pairs of soccer shoes.
Initially it was geared towards the team members and their immediate family but as word spread the donation kept coming from people who just wanted to help.
According to coach Norman Wallace the idea came about at one of their team practices, where one of the boys were boasting about a replacement shoe and the thought of how many unfortunate kids out there were without a good shoe. Then Haiti came to mind and the plight of the boys running around in bare feet on the broken bottles while playing soccer in the street.
Anyone wishing more information, or to donate, can call coach Wallace at 905-216-6316 or 647-273-7812
