The Florida chapters of the Kingston College Old Boys Association and the Calabar Old Boys Association will jointly host the second annual David Hunt Memorial Classic on Saturday, August 21st at the Miramar Regional Park in Miramar, Florida.
The first leg of the event will be held in Jamaica on August 7th at the UWI Mona Bowl. In the first of two games in the Jamaica leg, Meadhaven United Masters will play Pelicans Masters, while in the feature game, the KC and Calabar Manning Cup teams will face off for the David Hunt Trophy which was shared by both schools in the inaugural event last year after a 1-1 draw.
The Florida leg will feature three games: Cornwall College Old Boys v. Meadowbrook Old Boys; Jamaica Nats (DC) v. Pelicans Masters; and KC Old Boys v. Calabar Old Boys. In the curtain-raiser, Cornwall College Old Boys and Meadowbrook Old Boys will vie for the late David “Buggo” Haughton Trophy. Haughton, who attended both KC and Cornwall, and was actively involved in football administration in Jamaica, along with David Hunt and Dr. Alvin Lue, was a co-founder of Meadhaven Football Club which, under the guidance of Hunt, later dominated youth soccer in Jamaica. All three attended UWI together in the mid-1970s.
Proceeds from both events will go toward the David “Wagga” Hunt scholarship at KC and Calabar, respectively. Hunt, a KC Old Boy, was a former Jamaica National Under-17 coach, a KC, Calabar, and Meadowbrook Manning Cup coach, and led Calabar to both Manning and Oliver Shield titles before his untimely passing in October 2007 from a heart attack.
The 2009 scholarship winners were Jehvaun Faulder of Calabar and Miguel Morrison of Kingston College
