The highly acclaimed one woman play, Jamaica Farewell, has been optioned by Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson.
Jamaica Farewell was written and is performed by Debra Ehrhardt whose father, Paul Phillips, attended KC in the 1950's.
Rita Wilson has performed on Broadway, where she performed the role of Roxie Hart from June-August 2006 in the revival of Chicago.
She is often credited with being the driving force behind Nia Vardalos' movie deal for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which became the highest-grossing independent film of all time, and for which she served as a producer.
In 2007, Debra brought her play to Atlanta where she performed for three weeks at the Academy Theatre in Avondale. Since then she has performed in London, Mexico, New York--where it was a Fringe Festival winner, Miami, Boston and Los Angeles.
