Antonette Rosemarie Henry is the nurse at the KC North Street Campus. She took up the post commencing with the September 2009 academic year. She attended Spanish Town High where she was so impressed by the school nurse and that she yearned to enter the medical field.
Nurse Henry has spent all her life to this day in the second city, attending basic school, St. Catherine Primary through to Spanish Town High before she moved on to Northern Caribbean University in Manchester. In 2007, she attained her lifelong ambition when she graduated from the Seventh Day Adventist tertiary institution with a BSc degree in nursing.
It was back to Spanish Town for Nurse Henry when she landed her first job at Spanish Town Hospital. Soon thereafter, she saw a post for a nurse at KC in one of the local dailies. She applied and following a successful interview was provisionally appointed to the post.
It was with “excitement and a keenness to make my presence felt”, that she took up her post in September 2009. Her clinical responsibilities entail catering first aid and administering medicines to staff and students as well as well as providing guidance to students on hygiene & and a healthy lifestyle. She also monitors and interfaces with the canteen to ensure a safe and clean environment for serving and preparation of meals. She emphasized that trust and mutual respect are at the heart of discharging her duties. She lectures students on Health Day, arranges involvement in such programmes as the blood drive and works along with the Nurse Tanasha Tyrell Bonner of the Melbourne campus and a team of doctors on the compulsory medicals for new 7th grade intakes.
When she started, she first operated from a small office on the upper floor to the book shop. By September 2011, she moved into a more spacious and salubrious quarters adjacent to Hardie House which was furnished at a cost of some $60,000 by a group of KC Old Boys dubbed by ‘the 69ers’. The new air-conditioned station incorporates a furnished office and sick bay. She however is still in need of three additional beds as well as curtains and drapes.
Single, Nurse Henry enjoys singing and watching movies. On Sundays she worships at the Spanish Town Church of God of Prophecy.
