It's been hot in Atlanta this summer but the old boys found time to chill out at the GT Lofts in Dunwoody for the first Atlanta Summer Reunion Session. This was our second visit to the GT Lofts. Our first was for the Annual George Thompson Scholarship Fund Dance in December of 2010. The key feature of this venue is its location near to the Atlanta perimeter highway making it convenient to many of our supporters. Once again we were met with success at this venue as we realized a profit on our investment.
Dancing music was provided by DJ Tony Randall who received compliments for his entertaining mix of hits. Food for the well stocked buffet was prepared by Board member, Patrick Hector and his wife, Joan. The menu featured jerk chicken, fried fish, rice and peas, and vegetables. Soup was also available courtesy of Anthony Williams and his family. And as usual, the ladies, Alicia Adams, Toni Laman, Maggie Miller and Joelle Williams were busy with serving the partygoers at the buffet.
Conrad Jones, Anthony Williams and Sedley Morris were kept busy all night with duties related to the bar while Barry Miller and Seymour "Ricky" Edwards handled the will call table and ticket processing. Derrick Wright coordinated the collection of all proceeds. Although they could not attend Karl Stewart and Mike Martin put their respective secret rum punch recipes into action.
We are very grateful to Kool Runnings Restaurant which provided a gift certificate as one of the prizes for the evening's raffle. Royal Caribbean Bakery provided various Jamaican products for a gift basket that was also used a raffle prize. The main prize of a George Foreman Platinum edition family size grill was purchased with a donation by old boy Kenneth Gordon who traveled all the way from Florida to join in the merriment.
Many, many thanks to all who turned out and all who worked in various capacities to make this event a successful one.
