The year 2014 is an important milestone for Kingston College.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of KC and Jamaica’s participation in the Penn Relay Carnival in the United States. KC was the first Jamaican high school to send a team to compete in Pennsylvania. They not only competed but won the 4x100 relay in grand style and placed second in the 4x400 relay in that historic visit.
KC blazed a trail that many other Jamaican high schools have followed and so today many years later; the Penn Relays are dominated by Jamaicans high schools. Last year, for example, the top five spots in the 4x100 relay were held by Jamaican high schools.
KC pioneered in many things in previous years. We were the first high school to include weight training for athletes, for instance.
I hope we can return to our pioneering ways on and off the field in the not too distant future.
Have a prosperous and healthy 2014.
