Thirteen year old Javaughn Henry of 8 DeCarteret recently represented Jamaica in the Carifta under-15 water polo tournament in Kingston.
The lad proudly recalled that he has being involved with its forerunner swimming from his prep schools days at Vaz where he represented the school in championship as well as his club, Tornados.
It wasn’t difficult therefore for him to make the transition to water polo and his credentials were strengthened when he entered the hallowed portals of KC in Michaelmas 2010. Over the next two years he represented KC at the Inter-secondary Swimming Championship from 50m to 200m in all the strokes, free style, butterfly, breast stroke and back stroke, and the relays at the National Stadium. It was not surprising when he started trying out for water polo and soon earned his national colours for the U-15 squad.
Javaughn hopes to make the Jamaica junior swim team for the Caribbean International Swimming Championship scheduled for Curacao in June.
He lists watching TV, surfing the net and playing video games amongst his hobbies.
