The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced Lennox Graham as the 2012 CIAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year as elected by the CIAA Track and Field Coaches Association. Graham has named Women's Indoor Coach of the Year for 2012 and 2010 and Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year for 2011 and 2009. The award was issued at the CIAA Annual Spring Meeting held at the Newport News Marriott on May 24th.
Graham, in his fifth season as head coach, has led the JCSU Women's Track and Field program to historic heights. The team finished second overall at the CIAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. JCSU has been the conference runner-up at the indoor championships for the three consecutive seasons. The Golden Bulls were just 11 points shy of repeating as CIAA Outdoor Women's Track and Field champions.
Sophomore Danielle Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica) was crowned 2012 CIAA Women's Track MVP during the indoor conference championships. Williams won the 200m event with a personal best 24.67 time. Senior teammates Monique Kelly (St. Andrew, Jamaica) and Rosemarie Carty (St. Andrew, Jamaica) were also event champions; winning the 60m and 60m hurdles, respectively.
In addition to excelling in the field of competition, the Golden Bulls also achieved in the classroom as well. JCSU won the CIAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Highest Team GPA Award with grade point average of 3.06.
Johnson C. Smith will have 11 representatives (seven women and four men) competing in the 2012 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colorado. JCSU also had 15 student-athletes awarded by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with 29 All-Atlantic regional honors.
