KC recently captured the Under-19 all-island Table Tennis Championship when they tagged rural champions Belair High four games to one at the GC Foster Auditorium.
The contest was expected to be close based on the fact that the pesky Belair team included two national junior representatives and had waltzed through the rural competition.
The win by the Purples was the 14th since 1997 and further cemented the school's status as the top TT institution in the country.
Up first was skipper Jordan 'Smasher' Hazle who was the epitome of Fortis. Hazle got the ball rolling by rallying from one set down to win 3-1 against fellow national junior representative Samuel Ricketts. The sets won included a 12-10 victory after being down 4-10.
The inspirational victory by Hazle paved the way for easy wins by Mark Phillips, Dexter Mears and Jason Grant, ensuring a successful defense of the title.
KC again tasted success at the High School Singles Tournament played a few days later at the same venue. Sadiki Hinds and Dexter Mears took second place in the U-15 and U-17 categories respectively.
The U-19 final was an All-Fortis affair with Jordan Hazle getting the better of Mark Phillips.
Note: Former TT skipper Sheldon Watson was recently recognized as Employee of The Year at Sagicor.
