KCOBA USA, Inc. held its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, July 27, 2014 in the Bronx, New York. The atmosphere was filled with passion and positive energy, reflecting the renewed optimism and dynamism that has permeated the Association in recent years.

The afternoon commenced with the usual welcome by President Bloomfield; the Fortis prayer by Dr. Norman Scott; and the reading and confirmation of the Minutes of last year's AGM. This was followed by the officers’ reports which, of  course, engendered some spirited discussions and was highlighted by the ‘state of the association’ update by the President who thanked everyone for their invaluable support and contributions over the past year. We then paused for refreshments and the inevitable socializing.

The second part of the AGM - the elections - was presided over by one of our Life Directors, Mr. Mike Bromfield, as well as the chairman of the nominating committee, Mr. Ansell Barrett, who was celebrating his birthday that day. What dedication to the cause!  While the room was not overflowing as it was in the previous year, the turnout was relatively good. Included in the members present were Mr. Calvin 'Collie' Hibbert and Life Directors, the Honorable Noel Spencer and Mr. Errol Lecky.

The election was competently and efficiently managed, and the membership witnessed the unopposed re-election of all the officers. Additionally, eight (8) directorship positions were opened and were filled by four (4) returning Directors and four (4) newly elected Directors. Congratulations to all elected Officers and Board of Directors. A very special welcome must be extended to the new Directors.

I must also thank everyone who came out and participated in the election process. Gentlemen, the work continues. From my vantage point, the unopposed re-election of all the Officers signals a vote of confidence in the leadership and direction of KCOBA USA, Inc. Notwithstanding, we must not take this for granted. We must continue to work assiduously and strive for bigger and better things.

To my Fortis brothers near and far who are not yet involved, do come aboard. Progress is being made and this is easily verifiable. Just drop by 'the college' or speak to someone who has visited there recently. However, there is much more work to be done! Rest assured, we are aware that not everyone can write a 'big' check. In fact, experience has taught me that, in most cases, the individuals that can write the 'big' checks, while they might wish to, do not have the time to execute the many tasks and obligations of the Association.

Frankly, my brothers, it does not take a significant sacrifice to help make a difference. To illustrate, just by becoming a paying member of the Association, you would definitely be making a huge difference. So, come get involved. Bring your ideas, bring your talents, and yes, if you have it, bring your treasures. Let's continue to elevate our beloved alma mater, The Institution, Kingston College. Fortis!!!
