Despite the cold weather, the Atlanta chapter’s Annual George Thompson Memorial Scholarship Dance and Christmas Party had a good turnout although attendance was a bit less than last year. KC Old Boy DJ Migrane had the crowd rocking as usual. And our special entertainer, Parry Hinds, delighted the crowd with his soothing and mellow voice.
Kudos to Sedley Morris and the bar crew including Atom, Courtney Oddman and Earl Pitter. Also to our Fortis from Alabama, Alvin Binns, who was one of the first on the scene and who handled the bar donations.
Once again, we are indebted to Everett and Jo-Ann McNish for arranging the use of the splendid facility. The decorations were magnificent thanks to Jo-Ann, her friend Dolly, Earl Adams and Sedley who all got up early on Saturday morning to setup the tables and chairs and decorate the venue.
Our caterer, Pauline, did a great job with the food and keeps getting better each time. There was more than enough food to spare.
Many, many thanks to everyone who supported us. We really appreciate it. Two thumbs up to Grace Kennedy who provided us with three gift baskets for the raffle.
The George Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Atlanta chapter of the Kingston College Old Boys’ Association in memory of the legendary and beloved Kingston College Old Boy and Jamaica National Football coach of the same name.
The scholarship's goal is to assist current students at Kingston College as well as Old Boys with their educational expenses. There are two components to the fund: the student scholarship and the Old Boys’ Scholarship.
The scholarship fund currently makes 51 scholarships available to students attending KC. It also funds cash awards to KC Old Boys who are enrolled in a college or university.
