On December 30, 2019, Kingston College representatives and a large gathering of family and friends said goodbye to Chevaul French, the captain of the Kingston College Quiz team for 2016.
Chevaul died on November 24, 2019, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on the Portmore Road, St. Catherine.
In addition to serving as captain of the Quiz team in 2016, Chevaul represented KC in 2015. For 2016, the team reached the quarter-finals of the TVJ competition, while in 2015, the team went to the semi-finals.
Following completion of his Sixth Form studies at the College, Chevaul remained committed to the quiz programme, and was a regular coach among the "young Old Boys" who have guided more recent teams in the quest for excellence and success.
Upon leaving KC, Chevaul obtained a Government of Jamaica Scholarship to pursue Actuarial Sciences at the University of the West Indies. His performance at UWI was stellar: he took a First Class Honours degree in early November 2019, and was shortlisted for the Rhodes Scholarship.
At the time of his passing, Chevaul had taken up a position in the Advisory Division of the firm, PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Chevaul came to KC in 2009 from the Naggo Head Primary School, where he had been on the school's Junior Quiz team for two years.
Chevaul's parents, Eaton and Sharon French, are teachers at the Norman Manley High School. Chevaul was an active member of the Portmore Moravian Church.
