With April 16, 2022 falling in the midst of the Easter holiday weekend, and on a Saturday to boot, KC's Founders' Day could easily have slipped the mind this year. Perish the thought!
Fortis traditions are important and the 97th anniversary of Kingston College would not be forgotten. In celebrating this milestone, the KCOBA ensured that there was no break in the annual visit/hajj to the plaque on East Street, marking the original site of the School when it opened its doors to welcome some 49 students on April 16, 1925. Thus, on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM, small group of KC Old Boys and Student Leaders gathered on East Street, outside the western wall of the Gleaner Company, for a short 'Blessing of the Plaque' ceremony, led by KCOB Rev. Canon Dr Sirrano Kitson.
Rounding off commemoration of the 97th anniversary was a wreath-laying ceremony on the grave of KC Founder Bishop Percival William Gibson's grave, in the St. Andrew Parish Churchyard, Half Way Tree, on Tuesday April 19, 2022, commencing at 10:00 AM. This solemn ceremony was led by the School Chaplin, KCOB Rev. Fr Michael M. Brown, who lauded Bishop Gibson for his vision in founding Kingston College and his lifelong dedication to the School. Further tributes to Bishop Gibson, presented at the graveside, were delivered by KC Board of Management Chairman Mr Michael Vaccianna, KCOBA Past President Dr Patrick Dallas and KC Headboy Mr Malikai Allwood.
