Trevor Appleton was eulogized at his funeral as a brilliant scholar and an exceptional Athlete who possessed a strong sense of right and wrong.
He was the brother of longtime Atlanta chapter member Garey Richards.
He transitioned to the next life on April 8, 2022. Services were held at the United Brethren in Christ in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica.
Trevor attended St. Georges College across the street from Kingston College.
He developed a reputation for hard work in whatever he attempted and garnered attention with a 100% score on the Senior Cambridge high school exams.
On the playing field he was equally impressive playing on the Manning Cup team which took the championship in 1956. In 1959 his team won both the Manning Cup and the Olivier Shield. In track and Field, he ran on the 1956 team which took gold medal in the 4x100 relay. He was the captain of St. Georges’ Sunlight Cup cricket team as well as the wicket keeper.
After leaving St. Georges, Trevor attended UWI before heading to Ryerson Polytechnical University in Canada where he earned a BS in Nuclear Engineering and a Masters in Telecommunications.
His work took him to several countries including England, Nigeria and then Saudi Arabia where he worked for Lockheed Martin.
In the 1980’s he returned to Jamaica and took a job with Alcan Aluminum’s Kirkvine refinery. Later he became a lecturer at the University of Technology in Kingston.
Throughout his life he was known for his strong work ethic. He often lamented the decline in Jamaican society which he felt could be remedied by a focus on “self-respect, self-discipline and industriousness.”
Trevor is survived by his wife Yvonne, children: Mildred and Sabina; siblings: Lloyd, Darnley, Lorna, Garey, Hope and Rupert.
