Mikea Osei has funded full tuition scholarships to 10 students and 50% tuition scholarships to another 26 students during the 2023-2024 academic year.
A total of 36 students from the Melbourne campus benefited from the scholarships.
He emigrated to the USA in 1984 when he was a student in 9 Gibson. He never had the opportunity to study at the North Street campus. This is the primary reason why the initial Mikea Osei scholarships were awarded to students on the Melbourne campus.
However, future scholarships will be available for students on both campuses.
According to Mikea, “2024 represents forty years since I left KC and I wanted to give back to the institution that shaped me into the man that I have become. And what better way to give back but to offer financial assistance to KC students. I can remember the challenges my parents faced with paying the tuition for me to attend KC and I wanted to eliminate for some and reduce the tuition in half for others.”
Mikea attended Kingston College from 1981-1984 then left to the USA where he graduated with a BA from Manhattanville College and an MBA from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut. He lives with his wife and two sons in Virginia.
Mikea Osei’s memoir was featured 12 years ago in KC Times. “Crossroads, My Story and Survival Guide: A memoir of a Jamaican’s journey throughout America” and can be found at this link:
