Since our last edition, the New York Chapter has concluded their 27th Awards Banquet and the Tampa Chapter wrapped up their second annual ”session.”  And the Jamaica Chapter announced their new board.  The Atlanta Chapter has been busy too, preparing for its Reunion and Awards Banquet on June 19th.  You can read the respective reports in this month’s issue.

It’s not too late to join us for the Atlanta banquet.  We will be honoring two KC Old Boys: Dr Ray Fraser, President of the Jamaica Chapter and Dr. Frederick “Buddy” McIntosh, Life Director of the Toronto Chapter. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Basil Waine Kong, President of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean Foundation and former CEO of the Black Cardiologists Association.

There is a wide variety of articles this month: from a look back on Champs to a report on the Penn Relays; from Marlon Samuel’s visit to the Jamaica Chapter to Ray Ford’s recollection of his visit to South Africa a few years ago; from collecting shoes for Haiti in Canada to a science museum trip by our partner school in the Atlanta area; and from KC being closed due to the State of Emergency to the horrible shooting of KCOB Keith Clarke during the emergency.

We are continuing to make refinements to our new web design and this has reduced the amount of time we have to focus on publishing.  We expect this will be a factor for several more months. Please bear with us as we are confident you will be pleased with the finished product.  Of course, many of the improvement take place behind the scenes and may not be apparent to the casual reader.

Happy reading!

Glen Laman
