News that Stephen Vasciannie, principal of the Norman Manley Law School, has accepted the request from Bishop Alfred Reid to become chairman of the Board of Governors of Kingston College quickly spread through the Old Boy Community. "The future just got a whole lot brighter for KC," "excellent choice," and "eminently qualified" were some of the comments supporting the choice of this KC Old Boy and Rhodes Scholar to lead the board. His appointment is still subject to ratification by the Ministry of Education.

Vasciannie's devotion to his alma mater is unquestioned and his support for the school's Quiz Team goes back to his days as a student when he led the team to glory in the TVJ School's Challenge Quiz Competition. KC has the distinction of being the school with the most championship wins (nine) in the history of the competition.

There will be no honeymoon period for Vasciannie as a new principal needs to be found post-haste to replace the outgoing Herbert "Herbie" Nelson who only served as principal for one year. Other pressing issues include the school's inadequate and crumbling infrastructure, discipline, morale and repairing relations with the Old Boys.

Vasciannie will replace attorney Crafton Miller as chairman.
