KCOBA USA Inc. hosted a reception at the College's Board Room on July 23, 2010 in honor of Florence "Cicisse" McLeod and Llewllyn Johnson, both Presidential Award winners at our 27th Annual Reunion and Awards Dinner. Both honorees, who have spent most of their adult lives working at KC, were unable to attend our May 1, 2010 reunion. The New York Board felt it was fitting to host a function specifically in their benefit. The luncheon was well attended. The recipients received a check, plaque and the gratitude of a grateful old boys' association.
Among our guests were, Winford "Freddy" Green, our Guest of Honor at our May reunion and Woodburn "Woody" Miller, also our reunion Guest of Honor, but had also been unable to attend. The Principal Herbert Nelson and Vice Principal Marguaria Hall and both guidance counselors attended. Four of our five medical students from Cuba were in attendance, Kenyatta Powell and Chris Allen, on vacation from studying in Barbados and Ohio respectively, so were coaches and members of our school challenge team and our distinguished contributing editor, Basil Waite.
Speeches were held to a minimum. Rather, the event was more of renewing old acquaintances, retelling and embellishing of old tales and meeting for the first time several of the beneficiaries of our scholarship program. Food and drinks which included curried goat and chicken, escovitch fish and an assortment of delicious but calorie laden pastries was provided by Mrs. Pinnock of Jaci's Multi-treats.
Frankly, the only disappointment of the afternoon was the non-working status of all three air-conditioning units in the Board Room.
