The Board of the KCOBA is committed to rebuilding the KC Sixth Form into the intellectual centre of North Street. A key means of developing the intellectual capacity of our current Sixth Form is ensuring that high quality reading and research material are available to students and faculty.
So, even before being voted into office as the new Board of the KCOBA, Team Dallas lived up to that commitment by partnering with Ambassador Stephen Vasciannie, former Chair of the KC Board and Jamaica’s Man in Washington. Through the help of Ambassador Vasciannie – a former Headboy and Captain of the victorious 1977 KC Schools’ Challenge Quiz Team – Team Dallas moved to secure several journals on contemporary, literary and foreign affairs. These journals were then donated to the KC library non November 8, 2013.
At the presentation, Team Dallas leader, Dr. Patrick Dallas, emphasized the importance of providing 6th Formers with the tools to develop critical thinking as part of his vision for a 6th Form Centre of Excellence at KC. Dr. Dallas noted that the journals and magazines covered a wide range of issues, including Local and International Affairs, literature, and communications studies.
Principal Myrie, in accepting the donation, agreed that the journals and magazines should enhance the stock of the library, particularly for studies at Grades 12 and 13.
In January 2014, Mr. Donovan Dowie, member of the new KCOBA board, put into action the new board’s commitment of ensuring that no student from First to Sixth form is without access to the textbooks or other academic material that he needs. On January 17, Mr. Dowie made his personal contribution to the initiative of improving academic performance by donating two hundred and fifty (250) copies of his Math textbook, How to Pass Mathematics at CXC and CSEC. In thanking Mr. Dowie for his donation, Dr. Dallas, President of the KC Old Boys Association, noted that the donation should go a long way in providing the tools needed to master the CSEC mathematics examination. Principal Myrie, in accepting the donation, agreed that the text books should enhance efforts to make quantum leaps in improving passes in mathematics at KC.
