The Kingston College flag will always fly at Penn Relays. Literally.
The KC flag was raised at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday April 24th 2014 in a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first Jamaican school - Kingston College - to participate in the Penn Relays.
The KC flag will now be flown at all future Penn Relays!
Persons on the field to witness this historic event included: Mr. CK Buddington (Chairman, Penn Relays); Mr. Dave Johnson (Frank Dolson Director of the Relays); Dr. Geneive Brown Metzger (Board Member, Friends of Penn Relays and former Jamaica Counsel General to the US); KC Board Chairman, Mr. Michael Vaccianna; KC Principal, Mr. Dave Myrie, and Mrs. Helen Myrie; Prof. Rainford Wilks (Chairman, Gibson Relays), Mr. Patrick Dallas (President, KCOBA Jamaica) Mr. Perry Bloomfield (President, KCOBA NY), Mr. Noel Spencer, KCOB and KC Times photographer Mr. Ronnie Chin.
The flying of the KC Flag at Penn came about largely due to the efforts of KCOB Noel Spencer who approached the Friends of Penn Relays Board with the idea. The cost of producing the KC flag that met the Penn Relay requirements was borne by Noel Spencer and Audley Hewett.
The new KC flag was first unfolded at Humphry’s Flags- the flag designer/maker -- on April 23rd, 2014 in Philadelphia by headmaster Dave Myrie and Noel Spencer.
