Many thanks to Norris Lindo who reached deep into his archives to send me a photo of his 1956 form 6A class at Kingston College for our coverage of the passing of our beloved KC Old Boy and former headmaster, Rev. E. Don Taylor. That photo accompanies Winston Stewart’s tribute to the great man published in this issue.
Standing behind Douglas Forrest in the front row of the photo is Don T. Also in the photo are such notables as Ambassador Anthony Johnson, the late Peter Maxwell, Dr. Lloyd Demetrius who won the Jamaica Scholarship in 1957 and Errol Lecky who served as treasurer of the NY chapter with distinction for many years.
Don T. will long be remembered for his ability to connect deeply with people from all walks of life. Truly he was “no respecter of persons.”
Meanwhile back in April of this year, history was being made at Franklin Field at the Penn Relays. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of KC’s participation at the relays. The folks at Penn rolled out the red carpet for KC and Jamaica for the historic event.
The lion’s share of the credit for how the Penn Relays commemoration unfolded is due to former president of KCOBA USA, Noel Spencer who forged alliances with the Friends of Penn Relays Board and so gained a voice in the planning process for this year’s staging of the relays. Through Noel’s efforts the 4x100 championship of America relays was sponsored by KC as was the procurement of the new KC flag that will now fly at every Penn Relays going forward.
