Everard Constantine Hoo, age 86, passed quietly at his home on 7 th September, 2020.

Everard was born in Chapelton, Clarendon in Jamaica and later moved with his parents to Kingston when he was 9 years old. He was educated at Kingston College. He started working with Barclays Bank and later became a manager there. He then joined Jamaica Citizens Bank when it first opened, and after that worked with Manulife Insurance which later became Island Life Insurance.

In December 1956 he married the love of his life, Nolia (nee D’Oyen). Together they moved to Canada in 1978 where he continued to work with Manulife Insurance for several years.

Ever loved volunteering and did so with many community groups, even starting a garden competition in Milliken.

He served the Kingston College Old Boys Association (KCOBA – Toronto) for many years as Treasurer, up until a few years ago. Ever’s love of English and reading was insatiable and he has left behind hundreds, if not thousands of books. Another love of Ever’s was photography and he always traveled with a camera hanging around his neck! At every event, he would take photos of everyone, including at many of the Hakka events.

Ever’s farewell to anyone who saw him was always “Man, man, hang” (Walk good) and so he bids farewell to all who knew him.

He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Nolia, loving father to Michelle (Joe), Stewart and Gerry; grandfather to Kevin (Vianna), Duane (Gabriela), Nicholas and Kira; and great-grandfather to Sofia and Zane. Everard (Ever) will also be fondly remembered by his brothers, Richard (Carol), Eric (Melrose) and Andrew (Winsome) and his sisters Betty (Harry) and Enid (Ashley – dec) and their children. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Ken (Gloria) and his grandson, Blake.

Donations in his honor may be made to KCOBA, either by email transfer to or by cheque to KCOBA, mailed to P.O. Box 55278, Scarborough Town Centre P.O., Toronto, M1P 4Z7.
