After many years of electing the same executive body, Kingston College Old Boys’ Association USA, Inc. (KCOBA NY) membership elected a relatively new slate of officers. The new administration reflects a change in energy and direction that many constituents feel is necessary for adoption of a new strategic operating model.
Once again, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic made it necessary for KCOBA NY to make use of technology and hold a virtual AGM and election process. Having done the same thing successfully the previous year, KCOBA NY was well equipped to see the process through and it was another resounding success.
As is customary, the afternoon had two sections: General Meeting and Elections. For the General Meeting section, the outgoing President, Rainford ‘Perry’ Bloomfield, chaired the meeting, which commenced with the usual welcome and formalities. Officers’ reports and the various committee reports then followed. There was a summary of the previous year’s accomplishments provided by Mr. Bloomfield after which he conveyed thanks on behalf of KCOBA NY to the association’s sponsors, members, family, and friends who have supported the association throughout the year. The meeting was then turned over to Mr. Ansell Barrett, the chairman of the nominating committee. Voting was once again done and tabulated via OpaVote (the voting platform that was employed for the elections). Mr. Barrett then presented the results. This election cycle included the positions for 7 directors and all officers (5). At the time of the cut off for nominations for directors, there were 3 nominees which meant that there would be 4 director positions left vacant post-elections.
The members unanimously voted for a new executive body. Mr. Dwayne Montaque was elected as the new President to lead the association in its next phase of growth. Mr. Montaque served as the treasurer for KCOBA NY for the previous [4] years where he proved his mettle, knowledge and integrity. His 1st Vice President will be George Bell, a stalwart of the association who served in the position of secretary of the association for the prior [6] years. The 2nd Vice President will be Courtney Richardson, who has been a director for the prior [5] years and was instrumental in the improvement and maintenance of the merchandise portfolio of KCOBA NY. The new elected Treasurer will be Mr. Royland Gordon, CPA, who along with being a director for the prior [3] years was also the right hand person on the finance team that assisted the previous treasurer for several years. The members and supporters are confident that the association will operate with transparency, encourage collaboration and inspire confidence. The new Secretary of KCOBA NY will be Mr. Winston ‘Ras’ Henry who has been a director for [2] years and who has the steadying approach required to be the main point of communication. The newly elected slate of directors is now Mr. Alton Brown (former VP), Mr. Barrington Burke-Green and Mr. Norman Scott. All 3 of them were returned to the Board.
A special congratulations has to be extended to the elected executives and board members who have now been tasked with leading the association into the next phase of growth and development. Also, a great big thank you to all the members who participated in the meeting and exercised their voting rights.
Subsequent to the 2021 AGM, the board of KCOBA NY convened a special meeting to address among other issues the vacant director positions. Several candidates expressed their interest in joining the association to help with the mission of supporting Kingston College. Mr. Fritzroy Malcolm and Mr. Tyrone Harris were added to the board. Tyrone previously served as a director for a number of years. We are elated to have both Tyrone and Malcolm on the Board.
