Nick Perry was sworn in as U.S. ambassador to Jamaica by Vice President Kamala Harris in her ceremonial office on May 9th, 2022.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attended the brief ceremony along with Perry’s wife Joyce, his son and daughter, and Brooklyn Congresswoman Yvette Clarke.
It was an historic moment as Perry became the first US ambassador to Jamaica who was born in Jamaica.
He attended Kington College and worked at the BITU before migrating to the US where he served in the US Army and later became a New York State Assemblyman having been elected to represent the 58th Assembly in Brooklyn for 15 consecutive terms.
Perry holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Brooklyn College in Political Science and Public Policy respectively.
Perry's granddaughter is Justine Skye, a Roc Nation recording artist.
